iPhone: RSS Reader

March 1, 2010

John Gruber on iPhone feed reading apps:
… there are a bunch that are pretty good, but not one that’s great.
I think Apple could develop a great RSS reader for the iPhone. But if OS X for the Mac is any evidence of Apple’s considerations for a RSS reader, I wouldn’t hold my breath. Apple integrates [...]

SublimeVideo Supports Firefox

February 11, 2010

SublimeVideo is probably one of the most exciting developments in HTML5 for video playback. In the last post (read SublimeVideo HTML5 Video Player) I was amazed at the stutter-free video playback on Chrome and Safari. Now you can experience the same amazing Flash-free video on Firefox. Rumor: Hulu on iPad without Flash

February 10, 2010

A Flash-less Hulu is in the works according to TechCrunch. And it should work quite well with the iPad. I presume it would work quite well on the iPhone too. The Flash-less Hulu is expected to be available when the iPad launches in March 2010. A Flash-less Hulu would determine an inflection point from which [...]

Apple Aperture 3

February 9, 2010

According to Apple, there are 200+ new features in Aperture 3. I’ll just mention four:

Faces: Face detection and recognition.
Places: Able to pluck location data from photos.
Brushes: Nondestructive edge-aware retouch.
Adjustment Presets: Professional and custom imaging effects.

You can also create slideshows with photos, HD video, titles and layered soundtracks. Interesting how Apple is fusing capabilities from Garageband [...]

Movist: Mac Video Player

February 5, 2010

Federico Viticci in Movist: The Real Alternative to VLC for Mac:
Where Movist really outstands the competition is in file support. It’s the only app that played my .mkv files perfectly, even when VLC was crashing. Not to talk about .mp4 and .avi support, pretty obvious. Moreover, Movist plays .wmw files faster than Quicktime, and you [...]

Don’t Need No Flash

January 30, 2010

Kendell Helmstetter Gelner responds to TheFlashBlog: Except for Farmville and Hulu all of the other sites have non-Flash version for browsers that do not support Flash, including MobileSafari on the iPhone. Earlier, TheFlashBlog’s Lee Brimelow posted up mock screens of sites that supposedly didn’t support Flash. Well, it seems Brimelow didn’t check to see whether [...]

Daring Fireball: “Apple, Adobe, and Flash”

January 25, 2010

… Apple’s distaste for Flash Player is both a matter of engineering taste… and politics.
A must-read regarding “Apple, Adobe, and Flash” by John Gruber.

BumpTop for Mac: Silly 3D

January 20, 2010

John Gruber at Daring Fireball had this to say about BumpTop for Mac, available now for US$29:
… I don’t just want better file management for my desktop. I want better file management everywhere. BumpTop is a Finder alternative that only handles one folder: ~/Desktop/. And the 3D stuff, with a weird perspective on “walls”, just [...]

Ten One Design: Inklet

January 13, 2010

Inklet from Ten One Design converts the multitouch trackpad in the MacBook into a drawing tablet. The company does that adding pressure sensitivity when using Pogo Sketch. You type control-option-i to get it started and off you go. Inklet also knows to reject touches by your palm while drawing. Another neat feature allows you to [...]
