Apple Store, Grand Central Terminal

Metropolitan Transportation Authority Real Estate Director Jeffrey Rosen:

I can’t imagine why any kid in Westchester would want to do anything other than go into Grand Central and shop at Apple and eat at Shake Shack.

I guess it’s an East Coast thing; never heard of Shake Shack. Is it as good as In-n-Out? (Interestingly, both use Flash.)

Wintek Small/Medium Touch Sensor Capacity Booked Up

DigiTimes:

Taiwan-based Wintek has had its production capacity of small- to medium-sized touch sensors and modules already booked up during the third quarter of 2011 due to steady orders for touch sensors or modules used in iPad 2 and white iPhone 4, as well as orders for touch sensors used in Amazon tablet PCs to be launched at the end of the third quarter, according to industry sources.

It’s interesting that the white iPhone 4 is mentioned, as if to imply the touch sensor used is different from the black one. FYI, rumor has it the Amazon tablet simultaneously recognizes only two fingers.

An Apple Fanboy Confession

Mike Elgan:

Then it hit me: I’m not only an Apple fanboy, I’m a pathetically devoted one. I’ve got the latest iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, iMac and now I’m fricken wearing an iPod wristwatch? Wow.

At least he has an iPod nano to put into the LunaTik wristwatch case.

OS X Lion HiDPI Modes

Arnold Kim:

So, in the future, we might be using 2560×1600 (HiDPI) mode on a theoretical 30″ 5120×3200 pixel display. All user interface elements would stay the same size as today’s 30″ Cinema Display, but when available, higher resolution textures would be used to render the graphics. This is the same way that it worked when Apple transitioned from the original iPhone resolution to the iPhone 4′s retina display.

Except for the next iPad, which is rumored to sport a 2048×1536 Retina Display, I’ve got a feeling we’ll need to wait a bit for pixel-doubled displays for Macs. I hope I’m wrong.

Two-Finger Amazon Tablet

Christian Zibreg:

The gist of it is that the Amazon device will use a low-cost touch panel that can only recognize two fingers at once, instead of ten fingers for touch panels found in premium-classed tablets such as the iPad.

Are you telling me I’m limited to just two fingers when playing games like Bubble?

Toshiba Thrive

Dana Wollman, Engadget:

The 10.1-inch display crams in 1280 x 800 pixels, matching the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and other identically sized slates. Though it’s plenty bright, the viewing angles aren’t particularly wide. [...] As a bonus, Toshiba threw in the same Resolution+ technology it uses to clean up and upscale video on its laptops, but you’ll be hard-pressed to notice the difference on such a small display.

Display = tablet, a great display = a great tablet. Not so with the Thrive.

Retina Display Has Been Used in iPads

Yoo-chul Kim, The Korea Times:

He said more smartphone manufacturers will release new models employing LG’s “Retina Display” that has been used in iPhones and iPads.

He being Young-soo Kwon, CEO of LG Display. Kwon’s comment begs some questions:

Remember there are two Retina Displays at the moment. The one with IPS technology goes into the iPhone 4. The iPod touch sports the lesser one without IPS. Those two are it; there is no Retina Display used in iPads.

Not for sale anyway.

There is the possibility that Kwon was simply mistaken about the company’s Retina Display being used in iPads, but let’s assume it was a Freudian slip.

In Kwon’s mind LG Display’s 9.7-inch Retina Display has been used in prototype iPads for quite some time. To him a Retina Display-equipped iPad is already a reality and just a matter of time before it is available for sale to the public.

AT&T: 40% of iPhone Sales to Enterprise Users

Ron Spears, AT&T Business Solutions CEO, via ZDNet:

Four out of 10 sales of the iPhone are made to enterprise users.

How about Android?

I haven’t seen the Android platform yet in the enterprise space.

Andy Fixmer and Adam Satariano, Bloomberg:

Apple is in early talks that may lead to an acquisition offer for Los Angeles-based Hulu, said the people, who weren’t authorized to speak publicly.

Video subscriptions?

Update: John Gruber is skeptical.
