LG’s 42LG50, a 42″ 1080p LCD TV, can be had for just $799.96 from Tiger Direct. The 42LG50 sports a 1920 x 1080 pixel format, a fairly fast response time of 5ms, great viewing angles of 178/178 and a very bright 500 cd/m2. samsung_p2070_03

Samsung‘s P2070 is quite thin. Just 47mm or 1.85″. That might sound thick compared to some razor-thin LCD TVs, but for a 20″ monitor it’s pretty thin. I just eyeballed my HP w2408h and it seems to be more than double the thickness!

samsung_p2070_02

Power consumption is just 26W, which is about 33% less than your average 20″ LCD monitor according to Samsung. That’s an important consideration as all of us are finding ways to minimize energy consumption while maintaining and even increasing productivity. The TN LCD panel provides plenty of speed with a response time of just 2ms GTG (Gray-To-Gray) and a static contrast ratio of 1000:1. The brightness of 250 cd/m2 is a little below average of around 300 cd/m2 but will probably be bright enough for most. There is a single DVI-I connection.

samsung_p2070_01

The P2070 sports a 16:9 aspect ratio and an easy-to-remember 1600 x 900 pixel format. That won’t get you 1080p but your 720p HD content should cause no trouble. Just don’t scale it to fit the monitor as it will degrade the quality.

Overall the P2070 looks quite nice with its black Touch of Color theme. You can only tilt it; the pixel format is a bit limiting; but it sure is good-looking.

Lenovo ThinkPad X301: Earth Day Special Just $1691

Lenovo ThinkPad X301 Specifications

Green According to EcoGeek, the “ThinkPad X301 is one of the greenest laptops on the market.” It is also rated EPEAT Gold. Just so you know the X301 has a 13.3″ TFT LCD but is unique in that it sports a lot more pixels than other 13.3″ displays: 1440 x 900. That means more pixel real estate, a good thing in my book. You might need to squint your eyes to see really small fonts. It also touts a LED backlight for thinness, being green (no Mercury) and lasting longer on batteries. Quite green indeed.

Lenovo is having an Earth Day special for the X301. Originally priced at $2696, the X301 can be had for just $1691. Make sure to plug in this eCoupon: USPX301ED. Quite the bargain. Start customizing your X301! (The link takes you to Lenovo’s X301 Customization page.) And do it quick since the coupon expires on April 27, 2009.

Sharp just introduced its latest netbook, the Mebius PC-NJ70A. It’s sports a 10.1″ TFT LCD with a 1024 x 600 pixel format and has all the other standard netbook features such as the requisite 1.6GHz Atom and 1GB of RAM. But this little netbook has something that no other netbook has: a touch LCD trackpad! The LCD has a lot of pixels too: 854 x 480! Quite interesting. I wonder how long the batteries last. The LCD trackpad does employ an ambient light sensor to automatically adjust brightness.

Pininfarina designed this? It doesn’t look bad, but there’s nothing about the design that makes it special. Sure the integrated speaker grill having the same color as the keyboard might be considered something unique. But, I’d take a MacBook‘s design over this one and Apple just had their designers design the MacBook. Acer should consider just using its own designers. The Aspire Timeline 3810T looks pretty good! I think Pininfarina should stick to cars, like the Ferrari California below.
