Amtran builds LCD TVs for Vizio. On Tuesday, Amtran announced that it is boosting its shipment target for 2009 by 25% from 4 million to 5 million. The reason? Solid demand in the US. President of Amtran, Frank Wu commented, “There’s a flat panel shortage right now, and we should be able to ship 5 million TVs if we can get enough panels. Demand in the U.S. isn’t doing too badly.” This is good news and is probably reliable since Vizio captures a good chunk of the US LCD TV market.
