Toshiba’s 55ZX8000 is the largest of the latest in the company’s line of LCD TVs. The 55ZX8000 is 55″ and sports a LED backlight capable of local dimming that generates a dynamic contrast ratio of 2,000,000:1. Impressive. In this case, the dynamic contrast ratio is a big deal since the extremely high number will most likely translate into some very good contrasty pictures due to the local dimming capability. In addition the frequency of the 55ZX8000 is 240Hz, which is quadruple the normal 60Hz. Motion blur is probably completely eliminated. Then you have the Super Resolution+ technology that upcomverts all video signals to progressive 1920 x 1080 video or 1080p. All of these awesome technologies add up to a gigantic price: about US$6000.

Hello Jin,
do you know how many LED clusters (local dimming zones) does it have?
Thanks
Hi there,
Unfortunately I am not sure exactly how many LED clusters there are for the Toshiba 55ZX8000. Maybe this can help: last year I was invited to a Samsung event and they had an opened LED backlight. It had a total of 768 LEDs (24 x 32). From the looks of it that 768 number might be the number of zones. Just a hunch. Check out the post there are some pictures too:

Hope that helps.
The top of the range a950 series (2008) samsungs had 64 (8H x 8V) LED clusters (12 LEDs each)(soft dimming zones)
LG had 120 hard zones, the 2009 model will have 240.
So it seems the total number of LEDs for Samsung’s A950 Series is 768 (64 LED clusters with 12 LEDs each = 768). I would guess the number of LEDs as well as the number of dimming zones will increase over time. Maybe Toshiba’s 55ZX8000 will have about the same number of dimming zones as LG? I don’t know.
