Samsung‘s LN46A850, a 46″ LCD TV, has everything. Well almost. The 46″ LCD TV sports a 1920 x 1080 pixel format allowing for unscaled 1080p HD input. The four HDMI ports should be plenty for most of you out there: satellite TV, PlayStation 3, Slingbox, Apple TV… connected them all. The PVA (Patterned Vertical Alignment) LCD panel from Samsung has some very good features such as a 50,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, excellent viewing angles (178/178), a fast response time (4ms), a clean design that’s fairly thin at just under 2″.
The LN46A850 also has a 120Hz frequency: double that of normal ones. 120Hz reduces motion blur considerably and that means if you’re the type that likes this equation: TV = ESPN, then you’ll enjoy this Samsung TV. The fast movements will be crystal clear without motion blur.
There is just one thing missing to make this LN46A850 a perfect TV: a LED backlight. But you do save a bit of money without it. So what will you miss? With a LED backlight you get significantly better contrast. But even without a LED backlight the LN46A850 packs in a lot of ooomph. With power comes… a hefy price.
