LG: The LG XNOTE P310 Premium is a 13.3-inch notebook PC. The 13.3″ LCD sports a LED backlight and a pixel format of 1280×800. The display is powered by NVIDIA’s GeForce 9600M GT. The XNOTE P310 Premium is based on the new Centrino 2 platform.

Similar to Apple’s MacBook Air, the P310 eschews an internal optical drive, probably for thinness sake. There is an optional optical drive you can buy and the “Smart Link” cable is supplied with the P310.

iriver: iriver is getting into the “smartphone” market. The company’s ‘wave’ looks fantastic. The front is similar in design to Apple’s iPhone in that there is a single button, a speaker slit for your ears and a display that takes up a good chunk of the overall area of the front. The LCD is a bit smaller at 3-inch versus 3.5-inch for the iPhone. The pixel format is slightly less at 480×272 versus 480×320 for the iPhone. Now what is very different from the iPhone is that the wave is not really a smartphone in the normal sense of the word. Although you can voice communicate, the wave relies on a WiFi connection to do so. At least that’s what I think since I cannot seems to find any information regarding the baseband feature: whether it is a CDMA or GSM phone.
In South Korea, you’ll need to sign up with KT to get Internet Telephone Service. The base monthly price is a reasonable KRW2000 but it adds up quickly as you use the service. For instance, a connection to a domestic (that would be South Korea) landline phone number will cost the user KRW39 per 3 minutes. The same pricing structure applies to other 070 numbers. In South Korea there are specific numbers that are given out for mobile phones. For instance, a 070-123-4567 number will mean that it is a mobile phone number. In the US you wouldn’t know whether 408-123-4567 was a landline or a mobile phone number. Continuing with the cost: KRW10 per 10 seconds if you’re connected to other non-070 mobile phones. SMS? KRW10 per to 070 Internet phone users and landlines; KRW15 per message for other mobile phones. I’ve heard of teenagers racking up KRW200,000 in one month. Easy.
So the wave is a portable multimedia player that gives you the ability to voice communicate via WiFi: a WiFi Phone. Now the interesting part about all of this is that I had a very difficult time finding WiFi signals when I took my original iPhone there last year. The only WiFi connection was a paid one through Starbucks locations. I am guessing SK is building out WiFi hotspots around the country much like T-Mobile did in the early days and now AT&T.

B&O: When I first saw B&O’s BeoSound 5, I didn’t know what it was. I still don’t quite know what it is but generally speaking it is a A/V control unit. The BeoSound 5 has a 10.4-inch TFT LCD. The 10.4-inch LCD has a pixel format of 1024×768. As you can see B&O opted for a 4:3 aspect ratio, which I think is interesting since a wide format LCD is associated with leading edge technology. But even without a wide LCD the BeoSound 5 looks quite futuristic and there is nothing else quite like it. Gallery after the jump.
The 500GB HDD will allow the user of this magnificent piece of art & technology to store 28,000 or so songs or 1000 CDs in lossless quality. Quite a bit more, about 80,000 songs or 6000 CDs, if you’re willing to give up some quality with MP3 at 196kbps. Of course, anyone who springs for the BeoSound 5 will want to go with lossless, I’m absolutely sure. And when you are playing music, similar to Apple’s iTunes’ Genius feature, the BeoSound 5 analyzes the music you’re listening to and find more similar music. Head on over to for a lot more information.

Brightness: 300 cd/m2
Contrast Ratio: 20,000:1 (dynamic)

Viewing Angle: 170/160

Power Consumption: 90W (max, operational), 1W (standby)
Dimensions: 568 x 417 x 207mm
Weight: 5kg

Acer Japan: 1080p LCD monitors are in fashion! Acer’s P244Wbmii (interesting model name) is a 24-inch LCD monitor with a 16:9 aspect ratio. Pixel format is 1920×1080, exactly what you will find in most largish LCD TVs. The P244Wbmii sports TN TFT LCD and that’s why you’ll see two things: not-go-great viewing angles at 170/160 but super-fast response times at 2ms. I think Acer is targeting computer users that like to work, play and watch movies. Why do I say that? Gallery after the jump.
There are two HDMI ports. One for the gaming console (PS3 or Xbox 360) and the other for the PC (most likely you’ll need a DVI-to-HDMI cable if the P244Wbmii doesn’t come with one). There is also a VGA port for those who have yet to upgrade to DVI or HDMI sporting graphics cards.
ASUS VW193D Specifications
Display: 19″ Wide TFT LCD
Aspect Ratio: 16:10
Pixel Format: 1440 x 900
Brightness: 300 cd/m2
Contrast Ratio: 850:1
Viewing Angle: 170/160
Price: US$120 after $30 instant rebate, $30 mail-in-rebate (expires 2008.11.02)

Newegg.com: The ASUS VW193D might not be the best 19″ wide LCD monitor out there but it should be suitable for a good majority. The brightness at 300 cd/m2 is sufficient as is the contrast ratio of 850:1. Viewing angle is limited to 170/160 but I tend to be right in the middle of the monitor when I work or play so it really isn’t much of a problem for most.
The pixel format of 1440×900 is a bit on the low side, but you’ll be able to watch 720p HD content without a problem. If you absolutely need to be able to watch 1080p, then you’ll need to jump all the way up to a 24″ LCD monitor (there are a few 22″ LCD monitors that feature a pixel format of 1920×1200). At just US$120 at Newegg.com after a $30 instant discount and a $30 mail-in rebate (expires 2008.11.02 so get it fast) with free shipping, the VW193D is a real bargain!
