Sony’s just-announced FW series 16.4″ notebook PC is available for pre-order at Amazon.com. The price is a very reasonable $1149.99 and in some areas that means no shipping and no taxes. The VGN-FW140E that is available has the following specifications:

• 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P8400, 3MB L2 Cache
• 16.4″ LCD with XBRITE
• 3GB of RAM, 250GB SATA HDD
• Magnesium Chassis with Titanium Gray Finish

The highest-end model, the VGN-FW180E ups the CPU to 2.4GHz, has 4GB of RAM and 320GB HD with a Blu-ray drive for $1749.99; it is still a solid deal in my opinion.
