Samsung’s T240 is a 24″ LCD monitor sporting the company’s Touch of Color design theme that fuses a bit of red into the black casing. The pixel format of 1920 x 1200 is good and so is the brightness of 350 cd/m2. The dynamic contrast ratio of 20,000:1 is quite high and should yield some pretty images. The 5ms response time should be fast enough for most work and play, but you shouldn’t think of using this as your main TV since you’ll definitely experience some motion blur. Now, there is one thing that’s bringing the T240 down a notch and that’s the viewing angle of just 160/160. And that means that this otherwise good-looking 24″ LCD monitor is sporting a TN LCD panel. TN panels are not bad, but they are not as good as PVA or IPS. I guess you can’t have everything…

I love the T240. 24″ for gaming is all I need, especially since the monitor is only a couple of feet away from my eyes. Dense pixels allows for very sharp, very clear picture, and with the high contrast ratio, great colors, and very fast response, this thing gives very nice visual results.
Having an HDMI port is a HUGE plus, especially since this thing supports 1080 HD. It also maps the pixels to a 1:1 ratio while using HD, so the picture isn’t stretched, smooshed, or distorted in any way. 2 USB ports is also nice, and it even has a digital (optical) audio out port. What’s useful here is using a video card that has an HDMI port and a receiver with an optical digital audio port, so you can run the video via HDMI to the monitor, and then run the digital audio, uncompressed, to your speaker system (via a receiver that supports optical digital audio) and have a home HD theater right in your office or bedroom without having to spend gobs of cash on a huge LCD TV.
The gorgeous black cabinet with clear edges and a dark rose red bottom (under the word Samsung) gives this monitor a modern and yet classy look. The touch-sensitive button keeps the cabinet smooth and sleek. The menu buttons are on the side, keeping the cabinet’s look intact. It even comes with a furniture-grade microfiber cleaning cloth. This isn’t your little brother’s basic gaming monitor, it looks like a piece of furniture.
Enough about the beautiful cabinet, let’s talk performance. With a fast response and great contrast ratio, this thing is amazing for games. No blurring/ghosting, incredible clarity and incredible sharpness makes textures “pop”. Non-reflective coating on the screen is also good for well-lit rooms so no glare occurs.
This is a high-end 24″ monitor for less than $500. An excellent deal for such an excellent monitor.
sgtdisturbed47, I bought this monitor cause of you.
but it doesnt have 1:1 pixel mapping. I plug my PS3 via HDMI and it stretches it across the whole 1200 pix and not 1080… lil bummed about that
I think only the T240HD has 1:1 pixel mapping
There does not seem to be a definite answer concerning 1:1 pixel mapping on the T240. I have read many forums and there are some comments that say the T240 does not support 1:1 pixel mapping. How does playing PS3 games scaled to 1920 x 1200 look? The characters probably look a bit stretched vertically compared to playing at 1920 x 1080, but probably not that much since we are talking about 120 total vertical pixels (60 on top and 60 on the bottom). Hopefully it hasn’t negatively affected your game play.
