AU Optronics (AUO) will be the first display manufacturer to showcase a curved LCD during SID 2008. The LCD uses a conventional TFT LCD process and curves 100mm in a single plane. Potential applications for a curved LCD could be clocks, watches, automobile dashboards, etc. According to AUO information presentation is uniform including color and brightness.
AUO will be showcasing other LCDs such as an ultra-thin 1.9″ TFT LCD that’s just 0.63mm thick and a 1.8″ TFT LCD that has multi-touch capability integrated into the glass. Typically, touch capability is added onto a LCD by adding an additional layer of film.
